The brand was founded by an Italian born in Turin, Gabriella Cortese, and a globetrotter who settled in Paris in 1992. With Christophe Sauvat, her travelling companion and working partner, she began by designing flamboyant pareos under the Antik Batik label. "My style is very much influenced by my travels" explains Gabriella Cortese. "I am cosmopolitan, and so are my designs. I like to draw on what is beautiful in other cultures and adapt it to current taste." This eclectic designer says she is also inspired by her time as a dancer at Crazy Horse, where she worked for eighteen months when she first came to Paris.
Nowadays the Antik Batik stores offer Women’s wear, Lingerie, Men’s and Children’s wear in Paris, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and London, and also in the United States and Japan.
